The emerging city of Newport News is the largest city on the peninsula and is rapidly growing. There are over 2,700 people for every square mile.

Even the city’s name has great significance.  In 1610, the Jamestown settlement colonists were starving and had run out of supplies and strength.  They packed up and began the journey to the ships that would take them back to England.  With Jamestown abandoned America was about to be an unsettled country again.  The dream of living a life of free worship and expression to God was gone.  As the settlers were leaving the Virginia peninsula they encountered Captain Christopher Newport and his ship.  Captain Newport gave them the “good news” that his ship and others on route were filled with fresh supplies, food and people.  The Jamestown settlement and the dream of a free land of future and promise didn’t have to be abandoned.  It was Captain Newport’s News that saved the settlement.

We are excited as a church to have been called to share the true Good News to people who through the circumstances of life are being tempted to give up on the dream.  There is a God who is rich in love, mercy and provision who longs to restore their hopes of life, spiritual freedom and destiny in the city of Newport News, and surrounding York County and City of Hampton.

The neighboring York County and City of Hampton make for a concentrated population over a half-million people. Our target location is an area that has 400,000 people within a 20 minute radius.  This is a strategic area that unites the three distinct areas of York, Newport News and Hampton into one reachable landmass on the peninsula.  The major military outposts include Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe, Langley AFB, Cheatham Annex, Norfolk Naval Base and NASA.  These also are within a 20 minute drive and offer an incredible opportunity to serve our military families, as they serve our nation.
